Welcome to the ADI Part 1 Preparation Course

This course has been designed to provide trainee driving instructors with the knowledge, understanding and confidence needed to successfully pass the DVSA ADI Part 1 Theory Test. While being a safe and competent driver is an essential starting point, becoming a professional driving instructor requires a much broader understanding of road safety, driving theory, vehicle technology, legislation and the learning process.

Throughout this course, you will study all the key syllabus areas tested by the DVSA, including road procedure, traffic signs and signals, vehicle control, the driving test, legal requirements, instructional techniques and vehicle systems. You will also develop the hazard perception skills needed to recognise, assess and respond to developing risks on the road.

The aim of this course is not simply to help you pass an exam. It is to begin your transition from being a competent driver to becoming a professional driving instructor. By developing a deeper understanding of safe driving principles and how people learn, you will build the strong foundation needed to succeed in the remaining stages of the ADI qualification process and to enjoy a rewarding career as an Approved Driving Instructor.

On successful completion of this course, you will receive your Certificate of Completion, recognising your achievement and readiness to progress.

You can then continue your professional development by enrolling on the ADI Part 2 DIT KIT, which prepares you for the advanced driving ability test, followed by the ADI Part 3 DIT KIT, where you will learn the coaching and instructional skills required to become a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor.

We are delighted to be supporting you on your journey and wish you every success as you take your first step towards joining one of the UK’s most rewarding professions.
